The client wanted a statement, an image, we gave them an identity. The client purchased the existing structure at 550 California Avenue to use at their corporate office. We demolished the existing building as it was too small for their needs and had significant structural issues that made adding on cost prohibitive. The client wanted a strong contemporary statement one that is complimentary to the historical neighborhood. They wanted to maximize the natural light and provide a private outdoor space. We created a main level entry using full height glass walls for the conference room allowing light to enter the lobby space as well. On the upper floor we created a covered exterior deck space with an 18-foot cantilevered roof overhang extending the interior space outward. The exterior materials are a balance of smooth stucco and reclaimed barn wood siding.
